Description
A very rare Georgian wine glass c1755. Incised twist glasses account for one in a hundred of all surviving georgian glasses. In our experience only one in five incised twists are what we would consider to be “fine twists” and it is very fine indeed. The bowl type is also unusual . most incised twists have round funnel bowls and we have seen only a handful of ogee and trumpet bowls with this stem type. The stem also looks a little shorter than one would expect for a bowl of this size. Most unusual
The honeycomb moulding to the lower half of th bowl is a frequent feature of incised twist glasses. it is a good contrast to the stem. This is a three piece glass with conical foot and snapped pontil.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 6 ¼ inches tall with a 2 15/16 inch bowl and 2 7/8 inch foot.
