There are approximately double the number of two bud Jacobite glasses for every single bud wheel engraved Jacobite glass. Most authors claim theat the single bug glasses are earlier than the two bud examples . Horridge. Harshorne and Haynes were all aligned. The rose represents the crown of England and the single bud the Old Pretender. Seddon goes to great lengths to state that he prefers the even older theory that the Rose represents the Old Pretender and the bud the Young Pretender.
There are “late” facet cut stem wine glasses and numerous opaque twist examples with the single bud schema. The number of rose leaves to the left of the rose is remarkably consistent . three for single bud and five for two bud examples. With single bud examples there are always two leaves associated with bud. This too has yet to be consistently explained. and much like the rose and bud dilemma. it may never be so.
The scalloped out edges to the six petals and the double looped inner petals are indicative of engraver A according to Seddon.
