When this glass was engraved all hope for the Jacobite cause was gone. Charles Edward Stuart. the Bonnie Prince had become a wife beating drunk in Rome and had even converted to Protestantism in a forlorn attempt to gain acceptance. A loyal few held onto the dream as they do today. The latest heir to the Jacobite claim is currently living quietly in London !
* The standard date given for all opaque twist glasses is c1760. Opaque twist glasses were made for an extended period . 1760 is simply the standard median. The engraving on this glass is not mid 18th century . it is late 18th century. similar to that on many facet cut wines with a similar theme. hence the suggetsed date.
