Description
It has an Ogee Bowl above a plain stem with conical folded foot. It stands 5 3/4 inches tall with a 1 7/8ths bowl and 2 3/4inch foot. English lead. no chips. cracks or restoration
The engraving on this glass is undoubtedly naive. it has a stylised rose and leaves with lily of the valley on the reverse . The symbology and its Jacobite significance has been long accepted; the rose is a symbol of the English crown and lily of the valley the “return of happiness”. We believe that the more poorly engraved examples are widely overlooked and disregarded. Later examples are better engraved. this is true. as are many fakes. With engravers time being costly there will have been many sympathisers who could not afford to commission the best engravings.
This is a high lead glass with excellent colour metal and tooling.
