Description
An excellent and very rare combination of features in this 18th century mixed twist wine glass c1760. The rib moulded bowl sits above a mixed twist stem comprised of two pairs of white opaque spiral threads outside an air column. The 18th cen glass collectors “bible” ‘Glass Through The Ages by E Barrington Haynes describes how mixed twists are rarer in quantity than English lead colour twists – ‘
The detailed records show that there are roughly forty mixed twists to every fifty colour Twists. and two varieties to every five. so there is clearly a smaller choice if the search is for a mixed twist’.
Add to this permutation the rib moulded bowl and this truly is a very rare form. we have never seen one before.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it has a single seed in the bowl as shown. it measures 5 ½ inches tall with a 2 inch bowl and 2 ¾ inch foot.
