The exact origin of these arms is unclear but they were associated with the Wiskerke family of Zeeland in the 17th century. The Spanish created a Baron of Wissekirke in Flanders after they assumed control of the low countries and the Barony was ended in 1745.

The armorial has a coronet at it’s crest and yet there are no records of nobles of Wiskerke Zeeland of sufficient standing to be bestowed with a coronet. The opposite if true for Wissekirke in Flanders .There was also an established history of hop cultivation in Flanders and it was the Flemish who exported this to North Kent in the early 16th century. Zeeland however has a long history of growing bulbs. tulips and onions but not hops.
