Albert Hartshorne. former curator V and A first made this attribution based on the propensity of finds in Lothian and the borders. contemporary advertising and paperwork from the Caledonoian Company of the Holyrood Flint Glass Words in Edinburgh founded in 1812
The pontil is snapped which would suggest an early 19th century date. The foot is conical and the cushion is handmade and irregular. the sides of which are not undercut as one would anticipate with later examples formed by a footboard. It would be reasonable to assume that once steam power arrived that polishing would become much less time consuming and costly to undertake.
