Description
Heading : A Georgian single series opaque twist wine glass
Period : George III. c1780
Origin : England
Colour : Clear
Bowl : Drawn trumpet (slight flare) with burst air bubble to the interior base of the bowl
Stem : A pair of six-strand spiral tapes within a plain stem; there’s a 25mm bubble which has attached to one of the strands and follows its contours – an unintentional but really rather striking feature ! This is unusual in that the enamel threads do not reach the inner limit of the stem.
Foot : High conical
Pontil : Snapped
Glass Type : Lead
Size : 18cm height. 8.2cm diameter bowl. 8.2cm diameter foot
Condition : Very good; no cracks or flakes; there are clear pucella marks to the bowl. mossing to the base rim and some sooty inclusions and bubbles – but no more than the usual characterful manufacturing features which enhance a glass of this nature. There is a tiny imperfection to the inside of the foot rim which may be a chip. but could equally be a burst bubble – either way. it is not visible when the glass is standing on its foot
Restoration : None
Weight: 217grams
