There is some confusion around the dating of these large bell bowl opaque twist glasses. Corning have several English examples with date ranges from 1760 to 1775. The V and A state 1770 or later. We agree with the latter with justification. The bowl does exhibit pucella marks however it is a little brighter and cleaner than we would anticipate with earlier examples. The bowl is also far more generous than one would anticipate with glasses made during the second Carnitic and seven years wars when the price of wine exponentiated as it did during the Napoleonic wars in the firts decade of the 19th century.
