The sunflower always follows the sun. te true source of light. Pittock and others have attributed Jacobite interpretations to this. The jay in flight is a a well known metaphor for the usurpation. taken from Aesops fables.

The other flowerhead with the cuts below the flowerhead is a recurring theme on many glasses. including those with no Jacobite interpretation. Arthur Churchill did study this many years ago and reached the colclusion that it was simply a decorative element. We have our doubts. On later glasses the is rarely a cut line through the flower. This needs to be expplored further. time permitting
