By the time this glass was produced “The Cause’ was utterly forlorn. The romanticism associtaed with Jacobitism continued to flourish long into the early 19th century, fuelled by Walter Scott and the depiction of Highlanders as loyal soldiers to the crown, a view to be encouraged with increasing demands on the army as the empire expanded. It is this same romantic image of tartan clad warriors that has been exploited by Hollywood and the myth diverges ever further from the truth.
This is a quite beautiful example.
