Antoninus was the chosen heir to be adopted by Hadrian. However. there were certain stipulations that Hadrian put forward before he would agree – Antoninus himself had two adopt two heirs: Marcus Aurelius (aged 17) and Lucius Verus (aged 8). The Roman deity Fortuna was the god associated with luck. regarded as the bearer of prosperity and increase. However. this luck could be good or bad and therefore she is represented blind and veiled. as in the modern form: Justice.
