Features and Provenance: This coin was in circulation at the time of the birth of Jesus. but in a neighbouring kingdom. The Nabataeans built the famous ‘Treasury’ at Petra and this is thought to be Aretas IV’s mausoleum. They were traders of frankincense and myrrh and may well have supplied the ‘Three Wise Men’ with their presents for the infant Jesus.
