Why this laborious task was carried out is not entirely clear but it does allow the owner to see inside the coin and prevents counterfeiting. The mentioned fasces was a symbolic bundle of rods. sometimes with an axe attached. used by magistrates on official duties. The Postumia family were notable in producing many Roman magistrates from as early as 500 BC. Hispania. or Roman Spain. was separated into a number of regions and used as a training ground for Roman officers.
