Roman Silver Denarius:
Otho was emperor for only 8 weeks in AD 69. but he still managed to issue a number of gold and silver coins in his name. However. they are very rare and this is a good opportunity to own a remarkable piece of Roman history.
In his younger days. Otho was friends with Nero. but things went wrong when Nero had an affair with his wife and forced Otho to divorce her. He was effectively banished to the provinces and whilst there sided with Galba who became emperor. but Galba was later killed by Otho himself.
Favoured by the army. Otho was raised to the throne. but then had to deal with the rebellious Vitellius. During one battle. Otho lost 40.000 men. so ashamed by this he chose the honourable way out and committed suicide. Ironically. his men admired him so much for doing this that they too committed suicide beside his funeral pyre!
