Struck in AD 176 from solid silver, this Roman denarius comes from the rule of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD121-180).  Considered a fair ruler during turbulent times in the twilight of the Roman Empire, he is perhaps best known to most via his portrayal by Richard Harris in the Russell Crowe film 'Gladiator'.
