Henry VI was king of England from 1422 to 1461 and then again from 1470 to 1471; he was also king of France from 1422 to 1453. but his was disputed. Our coins comes from his period of French rule.
His father. Henry V. came to an agreement with the then king of France. Charles VI. that ultimately meant that if Henry V married Charles’ daughter. Catherine. he or his offspring would be king of France when Charles dies. Their son was Henry. As if the fates were watching. Henry V died when Henry was only nine months old. making him the youngest person to succeed to the English throne. To make matters even more strange. Charles died not long after. A regency council ruled for the young king for the next 15 years. but he was crowned king of England in 1429 and king of France in 1431. His reign in France was continually disputed and multiple battles were fought to keep the Gallic lands. but all were finally lost by 1453.
