Origin: Rhineland and Danubian area mints. probably Dorestad

Condition: VF. dark toning

Obverse: Quilled crescent coiled right (degenerated head). VE below and three pellets

Reverse: Beaded standard with four lines and annulet with central pellet

Size and Weight: 12mm. 0.870g

Features and Provenance: The so called ‘porcupine’ motif on the obverse of this coin. is actually a degraded version of the ancient Greek diademed bust imagery and the reverse depicts a Roman standard. A great number of varieties and patterns exist. These coins originated in the Rhineland and spread. with others. to Britain to fill a monetary void.
