The Iceni were situated in the Norfolk. Suffolk and Cambridgeshire areas. East Anglia as it is today. Their most famous leader was Boudica. but this coin was issued some while before she was in power or even married to a leader. Unfortunately the ECEN legend is not visible in this example. but signified that the unit was issued by Ecen. a co-ruler with Antedios around the AD 10 to 40 period. It was once thought that Ecen was the tribal name. a version of Iceni. but this is now thought not to be the case. It may of course still be abbreviated so his name may have been Ecen(os) or Ecen(omaros) until further evidence comes to light we can only surmise.
