Obverse: Facing bust with quatrefoils at neck within tressure. legend EDWARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRA. rose initial mark

Reverse: Long cross over two circles of legend. three pellets in each quarter and extra pellet in first quarter. POSVI DEVM ADIVTORE MEVM and CIVI TAS LON DON

Size and Weight: 3.01g. 26mm

Features and Provenance:  This historic coin was minted during the House of York’s first visit to the throne in 1461. Edward controversially married Elizabeth Woodville (the ‘White Queen’) in 1464. but the throne was lost in 1470 as a result of the unrelenting struggle for power with the Lancastrians. known as the ‘War of the Roses’. His second reign during 1471-83 brought relative peace to the country. He had ten children with Elizabeth. seven of which survived him. 

 

 

Condition Summary. This varies with the age of coin and there are grades in between

Uncirculated (U). As struck with no traces of wear

Extremely Fine (EF). Very slight traces of wear. all parts of legend etc present. visible and clear

Very Fine (VF). Some signs of wear on the higher parts of the relief. all parts of legend etc present. but maybe worn

Fine (F). Wear on the coin and parts of legend etc may be missing or not visible
