A rather larger than life character. he lived in the height of luxury and extravagance and gave rise to the phrase ‘Regency’ style. He married secretly but as this union violated the Royal Marriage act. it was not seen as valid. His arranged marriage to Caroline of Brunswick was a disaster as he disliked her and banned her from ever being crowned and he died childless having reigned for only ten years. He is famous for his art collection. still admired today and for building the Royal Pavilion at Brighton; he also introduced a lot of the pageantry still played out today in royal ceremonies.
