Features and Provenance: George reigned from 1936 until his death in 1952. when our dear late queen (Elizabeth II) took the throne. He was the last Emperor of India. the British Raj being dissolved in 1947. and the first head of the Commonwealth. This coin commemorates the Festival of Britain held in 1951. It was located on the South Bank of the Thames and the theme was Britain’s achievements; a big boost to down-at-heel. post war-torn Britain. It was considered a great success and the Festival Hall. the last surviving vestige. is still going strong as a world renowned concert hall even today.
