Reverse: Square-topped shield with long cross patonce. W – A either side. CIVI TAS CAN TOR

Features and Provenance: The W-A on either side of the shield. on the reverse. denotes the mint officiated by Archbishop William Wareham. There were a number of mints in Canterbury run for the Crown and the Archbishop but all overseen by the exchequer with strict controls. Archbishop Wareham crowned the new king in 1509 and married him to Catherine of Aragon. He was well over 50 and considered an old man but managed to be the longest serving Archbishop of the period.
