Features and Provenance: This almost insignificant little coin oozes history from a period of great change to South America. At the time this coin was milled. the President was Simon Bolivar famous for dissolving the then Gran Colombia. which encompassed most of South America. into successor states of Colombia. Ecuador. Venezuela and Panama. The image on the reverse of the coin is now the state emblem on the flag; the fasces being an a symbol of authority originally depicted in Ancient Rome and later used by Fascist Italy.
