Description

This superb glass dates to between c1650 and c1680. Façon de Venise. in the style of Venice. a useful collective French term to group glass made in the 16th and 17th century at multiple locations across Europe. Soda glass has a higher viscosity than lead glass at any given temperature and thus it lends itself to being worked more easily into thinner walled glasses and some of the incredible “winged” shapes produced not only in Venice but Holland. Spain and elsewhere.

This glass is “à la façon” and has very thin delicate walls. The funnel bowl was made separately to the inverted baluster hollow stem. It has a very delicate conical folded foot. Fire polished rim and excellent tooling no chips cracks or restoration.

It measures 6 3/8 inches tall with a 3 ½ inch bowl and 3 2/8 inch foot.
