Description
Hardback new edition of The Decanter by Andy McConnell
This is more than a tome on just decanters. It is a comprehensive history of glass compressed into just 540 beautifully illustrated pages. A must have for any glass collector. This is a special deeply discounted price for our customers.
Eric Knowles Comments
Andy McConnell is not only my occasional BBC TV Antiques Roadshow colleague but also unquestionably a kindred spirit. Despite his highly individual and sometimes zany sense of humour his enthusiasm for all things glass is both total and infectious.
I should stress that Andy’s delivery when recording is spontaneous and unscripted as is the case with all our colleagues and after 39 years working on the programme I am still unable to fathom just how we manage to combine in depth knowledge into informative entertainment.
What makes Andy that bit special is his mission to extoll the virtues of both past and present-day glass makers from across the globe and then crystalize his findings and observations into the written word.
The Decanter is his most recent offering and is a veritable ‘tour de force’ which must surely rank as the definitive work on his chosen subject and despite Mrs Knowles’s pleas for no more reference books (1.112 at the last count) there was no way I could not have a copy in my personal library.
The fact that both Georgian and Victorian decanters appear to be back in vogue with wine lovers – and collectors who make regular visits to the scottishaniques.com website – makes the relatively recent launch of his book appear to be nothing short of perfect timing. It is now worth asking yourself if now is the time to add this venerable tome to your bookcase.
