The target market for Spode was the upper echolons of society and the gentry. This must have been one of the most costly of designs to produce. The labour cost for painting and gilding alone will have ensured that the factory output price was very high. All this at a time when competition in the UK porcelain industry was already high and growing. This is the most lavish of all the “candlelight” designs by Spode. Hand painted with roses. daffodils. amemone. convolvulus. primroses and more this is English botanical pocelain at its most decorative in the early 19th century.
