Heading : Converted Tunbridge ware tea caddy with image of Carew Castle

Date : c1860

Period : Victorian

Origin : Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Decoration : Central image of Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire, flanked by two stylised floral mosaics. Foliate banding to both cover and side panels of cover. Foliate banding to waisted side panels of main body. Four bun feet. Interior with central foliate mosaic and stylised banding with dentil stringing. The interior has been converted, the compartments removed and lined with pink velvet to a high standard

Condition : Excellent -light wear. Lacks key.

The view is originally by Henry Hollamby and, although many of his views were used by others, we believe this to be Hollamby’s work.

In our opinion this has become far more appealing following the conversion. Very few people use tea caddies for their original intended purpose. The conversion has opened up multiple opportunities for alternative usage and to extend the life of this fine piece of Tunbridge Ware.
