This is almost certainly a glass engraved to commemorate a marriage S and A. the P being the first letter of their surname. This has been used for centuries. we have seen the same configuration being unsed on 18th century silver loving cups and glassware. The “equals” sign the symbol of equivalence was invented by Robert recorde in the 16th century and is still being carved in trees today. It is worth noting however that until the married womens propert act of 1882 that women were still legally regarded as a chattel. the property of their husbands. hardly equivalence.
