This enormous mid 19th century ale glass would make for an ideal modern drinking glass. The criticism most commonly levelled at antique drinking glasses is that their size is not up to modern consumption rates. This is not a problem for this monster of an ale glass. The mid 19th century saw the invention and popularisation of India pale ale (IPA) this version of the drink is much more similar to modern ale than the Americanised citrus laden nearly-lagers being pedalled as IPA now.
