Description
Victorian Stourbridge Engraved Goblet c1880
This goblet was produced in Stourbridge by possibly Northwood or Richardson. Similar example’s in the Black Country museum are dated 1850-70.
The engraving is simply sublime. A continuous spiral of fruiting vines they becomes progressively larger wends its way down and around the bowl. It sits on three hollow knops. a bobbin stem if you prefer. The foot has a ring of printies cut in the base. a homage to continental glasses of the 18th century.
English lead. it stands 7 inches tall with a 3 1/2 inch bowl and a 3 inch foot. polished pontil.
