Description

A superb large Victorian Goblet from c1850.

It has a gold gilt rim with unique hand painted panels. A slice cut stem with a large central rope cut knop stem and spreading foot which has been facet cut and as similar gilt decoration to that above.

Lead glass. no chips cracks or restoration. it has some minor loss of gilt but overall it is in excellent condition. It is very much in the facon boheme. however it weighs almost 2kgs  and is a heavy lead glass.  We suspect that it may have been made by Richardson in Stourbridge England who made Bohemian style glass from around 1840 and very similar pieces can be seen in on page 104 of the Richardson Dynasty within the book British Glass 1800-1914. but we cannot find an exact match. It has been suggested that this is a communion glass. it certainly has the proportions. but the decoration cannot be deemed to be “religious”. It holds a whole bottle of wine. one for the oenophile.

It measures 9 3/8 inches tall with a 4 ¼ inch bowl and 4 ½ inch foot.

We also have an identical example if blue and we have photographed them together.

Please request a postal rate if outside the UK as the glass will be well over 2kgs once packed.
