Description
Two Victorian Amethyst Wine Glasses c1820. These are in the style of early Dutch and German Roemer glasses. They have cup bowl with a supporting milled collar. Hollow stem with raspberry prunts on a conical foot with a threaded foot
Such glasses were produced for the consumption of Rhenish wines during the 18th and early 19th century. Nowadays known as Hock they had been immensely popular In England since the seventeenth century. both marked decanters and labels are well known. We dont know if they were sweeter than their modern counterparts but the literature suggests that this is the case.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. they measure 4 ½ inches tall with 2 ½ inch bowls and 2 3/4 inch feet.
