Description
This glass originates in Silesia and could have been made at any time from 1890 to 1920. It has been engraved with a trowel and a plumb line and “No 289”. This is a Lodge number. These numbers did change over the years but we know that Lodgs 289 was the Lodge of Fidelity in Leeds at the time this glass was made. We also understand that it may have been ordered to celebrate the Lodge centenary in 1892. The lower section of the bowl has seven flute cuts that continue down to the stem. The number seven is by design. it is significant in the craft. There are seven noble arts. seven cardinal virtues. seven men are required to work a Lodge. It is also the “perfect” number as it contains 4 and 3 the square and the triangle
Stands 4 1/2 inches tall with a 2 1/8th inch bowl and a 1 3/4 inch firing foot. No chips cracks or restoration
