The tipple of choice for artists and intellectuals. absinthe was first produced commercially to prevent malaria in French soldiers. It did not work as an anti malarial but it certainly does fuel people with courage

It was a Scottish Doctor who discovered the benefits quinine and prescribed this to British soldiers in India. This then became a wide spread tonic and we go full circle and back to the British obsession with gin.
