Description
A brandy fountain with its original lid with finial. It has cross cut diamonds and hobnails cuts around the bowl and is marked “BRANDY ” to leave you in no doubt.as to it’s intended purpose. . It has its original brass tap. in full working order. above a conical slice cut foot. These were made for the Victorian public house trade and would bear the marks producers and importers of rum. brandy . whisky and other spirits. I can recall seeing such fountains being displayed in the waverley and Greyfriars Bobby in the late 1970s as decorative items. Definitely an item for a “gin palace”. Fountains and punch urns of the sae form are known from 1800 onwards.
Lead glass. it has a tiny slice chip to the foot and another on the rim of the lid. outside that it’s in excellent condition with no other chips cracks or restoration. It measures 14 ¾ inches tall with a 2 ¾ inch bowl and 4 inch foot.
