This is so very gothic in style with heavy embossed vines and an finial loop thats supports a bunch of grapes thet the makers must have been influenced by Ruskin and Pugin the godfather of gothic. It may be little earlier then we state. such silver or silver plate tops appear on the same style of decanter from around 1820 onwards. sheffield plate and electro plate after 1840. The later perpendicular cylinder decanters tend to feature broad cut flutes and spire tops and are often cased or flashed and have cut to clear “panes” and are reminiscent of stained glass and ecclesiastical items. Wine. the holy communion. no wonder decanters lend themselves to Gothic design so easily.
