The presence of trangular notches in the flanks of the bottle is always an invaluable piece of dating evidence. Following the weights and measures act of 1878 it became mandatory for bottles and measures to be used with the hotel, catering and public house trade to have their capacity denoted. Some were retrospectively marked. After 1890 this practice was replaced by acid etched verification marks.

"Full bottle" capacity 80cl+ , a welcome addition to any dining table for water or wine.

A very good client and specialist collector has an almost identical bottle marked for the "French House 1882". We believe this may refer to the well known bar and restaurant in London.
