Victorian Nailsea Style Glass Whimsey Pipe c1860
A Victorian glass pipe. in the Nailsea style with which spiral opaque twist threads and a red frilled rim. Other than a little dust in the central chamber that may be washe away. it is in perfect condition with no chips. cracks or restoration. It measures approx. 9 ½ inches long and would have been made by the glassblowers to show off their skills rather than a commercial item. often know as a whimsey or a frigger.
Very similar pipes are displayed at Laing art gallery in Newcastle. produced by the Sowerby factory of Gateshead c1860.
