Additional information : An antique jar to contain Zinc oxide or ZnO to any chemists who may be reading. A French colourmaker would have used the contents of this jar in order to make Zinc White. an oil or water colour paint which proved whiter and colder than Titanium or Lead white. Zinc oxide was also used to whiten the faces of ladies once it was discovred in the 18th century that ;ead oxide was non optimal. It is still used today in sunblock.
