Description
A fascinating Victorian glass horn c1870 with fine wrythen moulding. English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 8 1/8 inches tall.
I have a good friend with collection of these horns (amongst many other strange. quirky and wonderful antique glass items) including a rare blue wrythened example. They actually work. if you know how to blow a horn. and were made for parades and parties. All the examples we have seen are wrythened we have yet to see a plain example.
This example has a particularly nice form.
You sometimes find them advertised as ‘hearing aids’ but I’m pretty sure that is confined to the ‘Broons’ cartoon sketch books. One would need an auricular cavity the size of an elephant!
