The Odd Fellows is an international fraternity originally operating in a similarly secretive way to the Free Masons but since becoming more publicly approachable. “The Independent Order of Odd Fellows” is engraved on this rummer the independent order was founded in Manchester in 1810 as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Manchester Unity. The original order had been divided by the Jacobite cause and many were dissatisfied with the way the order was now being run.
The independent order has a had a number of significant members including George IV. Stanley Baldwin. and Winston Churchill. Truly an illustrious list.
The engraving includes the names “Henry and Ann Brome” alongside a number of quasi-masonic symbol engravings. These include: dove and olive branch. sun. all seeing eye. moon and stars. heart in hand. owl on branch. and crossed swords.
A fascinating glass for those with masonic interest.
