These crests are generically termed ‘Farmer’s Arms’ although we have not found an exact match for this engraving it is a relatively common theme on both glass and porcelian from the 18th and 19th centuries.

God Speed The Plough is a relatively common inscription of creamware and stoneware. We have also seen this on both Lowestoft and Liverpool porcelain all dating from a similar period. Quite why this phrase should proliferate on domestic wares from the late 18th and early 19th century is unknown to us. The phrase dates back to the 14th century and appears in Chaucer’s the Monks Tale.
