Heading : Nailsea style glass rolling pin
Date : c1790-1820
Period : George III
Origin : England ( Could be Newcastle. Stourbridge. Warrington or Bristol. but most probably Nailsea)
Colour : Dark bottle glass
Body : Flecks of pulled opaque white enamel
Pontil : Snapped
Glass Type : Lead
Size : 13 ¼ inches in length and approx. 2 ¼ inches in diameter
Condition : Very good. small chip to one end as shown
Restoration : None
Weight : 655 Grams

Additional Information : Often referred to as “love tokens” . many carry slogans such as ” wait for me” and “be true to me” and were soposedly gifts from sailors to their betrothed. WE can find non evidence for this. They are more likely to be items to be discussed or decorative items. We have seen two pins that had metal and cork stoppers. it is possible that they may have been filled with water and used for rollong pastry. but more likely to contain items to be kept dry. such as salt

The glass itself with white flecks is typical of Bristol bottle manufacture at the end of the 18th century to early 19th century.
