This pattern was named after Walther Cranes illustrations which were associated with the childrens riddle ‘Elizabeth. Elspeth. Betsy & Bess’. The moulding shows the ‘four’ together with the five eggs from the riddle. All picked up one egg leaving four remaining as the names are all derived from on person. Elizabeth.
Elizabeth. Elspeth. Betsy and Bess.
They all went together to seek a bird’s nest.
They found a bird’s nest with five eggs in.
They all took one. and left four in.
