1933 was a year of incredible changes in Europe. It began with Adolf Hitler becoming Chancellor in Germany. further elaboration of the political impact of this event would be superfluous but it is worth mentioning that this event would lead to the end of René Lalique’s career seven years later upon Nazi occupation of France. Lalique was in his pomp during the early 1930s and this extraordinary piece is a wonderful example of his mastery of the deco style.
