A late 19th century German silver pill box with repousse decoration. The lid is decorated with a minstrel serenading two ladies whilst each side panel carries a decoration of musical instruments and a bow and arrow. perhaps alluding to the classical god of love Cupid.
The technique of repousse work involves hammering a sheet of malleable metal from behind. either freehand or into a mould.
Full German silver marks to the base denoting .800 quality silver and with the mark for the town of Hanau.
