There are numerous examples at the V & A under the search term “Sheffield plate candleticks”
Prior to 1790 candles were the principal source of light in the home. Sheffield plate was developed by Sheffield cutler Thomas Boulsover folowing an accidental discovery in 1742. Silver may be fused to copper and both are equally ductile. These candlesticks are made from die stamped components that are fused together. This technique lends itself to the styles with raised sections. The candlesticks are then “loaded”. filled with resin or metal to increase stability. in the same manner as so called “solid silver” candlesticks.
Shefffield plate examples could be produced at less that half the cost of their more illustrious equivalents. These may be replated upon request. however the wear and copper highlights are quite beautiful.
