Both brass and silver candlesticks from 1765-70 and onwards were inspired by the architecture one would view on the “Grand tour” of ancient Greece and Rome. These neo-classical candlesticks were hollow core cast. this method of production enabled a push-rod extractor to ease the removal of the candle stump. The casting seam or flash seam has been polished but it is stil detectable.

The golden red tone of the brass is a result of the high copper content which gave rise to the name “Abyssinian gold”.
