Walker and Hall were the goliaths of the Sheffield silver and metalworking industry. Founded in 1845 and with an eye for modernity they were the first of the Sheffield firms to license the Elkington method for electroplate. They producedcboth silver and “plate” decorative items and cutlery for which Sheffield was renowned. The clock tower of the factory was a Sheffield landmark until demolished in the mid 1960s and is remembered with affection by Sheffielders.
